[Douglas is wandering toward Azalea currently, having just recently gotten through Union cave, and he's about halfway there. He's been traveling for almost twenty-two days, and he looks like it. He's long since finished the lunch Mom packed him and he's got the basket it was in about half filled with berries at this point. There's sweat beading on his brow despite the cool weather and he's trekking along as steadfastly as possible. His shuckle, Sheldon, is currently completely inside his shell and he's nestled among the berries in the basket, asleep or just being antisocial]

So anyway... I think I might have a problem. See... this little guy doesn't like me at all. I named him Sheldon. Figured if he had a name, he might bond with me better. But I can't get him to come outta his shell.

Anybody know what to do about this kinda thing? Does it happen a lot? And I know this might sound kinda weird, but can these things... ya know... talk?

Yeah, he's definitely the quiet type. For some reason I keep gettin' the feelin' I'm offendin' him somehow. Can't imagine what I did, though.

Good point though. Guess this is better than if he was jumpin' all over me all the time. Maybe he's just shy.

[OH GOD. It really IS Claudia. Douglas does a double take and then he just sort of... stares. The last time he saw her he ended up with a broken leg and he's not letting that go just yet, and so his eyes narrow just a bit as he regards her on his screen]

[then he's just silent for a moment before he gathers himself enough to speak again]

Oh yeah? And why's that?

Did you try talking to him? Or putting him in water? Clam finally opened up when I let him swim around a little.

[he pauses, and then he stops and glances at the small pond he's passing. Shifting the 'gear a little, he moves over to the pond and hesitates briefly before he sits Sheldon in the water]

[the shuckle comes out of his shell and Douglas grins slightly]

All the ones I've seen definitely do. Kotai's overprotective, Asimov's affectionate--really, it's like any other normal pets. Except these ones can cause insane amounts of damage in the wrong hands.
