[Douglas is just sort of sitting around at the bar in the inn, and he's got the 'gear propped up on his bag, which is still filled mostly just with the basics and the things Heather sent him. He's pretty much moved permanently into a room in the inn at this point. Sheldon and Kal-El are fighting over some berries and come pretty near to knocking the 'gear over several times, so it's a while before Douglas can actually pay any attention to the feed he's sending out]

It's been a while since I've done this, hasn't it? Feels like it's been a while, anyway. This time I've actually got a point, though. I've been doin' some odd detective work for people around town lately, and it's got me thinkin'. I know there might not be much demand for this sort of thing, but if anybody needs to hire a private detective, you can contact me anytime. Figured it might do some good to advertise.

[then Kal-El knocks the 'gear over and Douglas sends him a scowl and holds it in his hands rather than risking it getting knocked over again]

I don't charge much. Really just got my room and food expenses to cover, so I'll do whatever you need for pretty cheap. Just send me some details if you have something you want me to work on.Got about twenty years of experience, and there's not a lot I can't handle, I like to think.

_{[And Coop's mind is on the same track - he's of the impression that him and Douglas really aren't so different, and he's got a likeness and respect for the older man because of it. He nods, grins in agreement at the statement.]}

[it's nice having someone to relate to around here, and Douglas will never deny that he appreciates their friendship. And then at the introduction, he chuckles a bit, noting the intense stare of Sheriff]

He sure looks like he knows that I'm all about. He can't read minds, can he?

_{[Sheriff seems to accept Douglas, though, and curls up in Coop's lap - still watching him, but now with not so much ... well, judgment.]}

I wouldn't be surprised, either. I sure looks like he's concentratin' hard enough to.

[Douglas is a little comforted by the loss of those piercing eyes and he turns most of his attention back to Coop, though he keeps the corner of his eye on him just because he feels like he should watch the little guy like he's watching him]

Yeah, they seem to do some weird stuff. I never really think about the fact they they have all these abilities and stuff until one of mine does some crazy thing.

Mine seem pretty low-key. Except for the zubat but I keep him under wraps, 'cause he hates me.

Mayhem, mischief, shenanigans. They like to play pranks on me and each other when they think I'm not paying attention.

What sorta pranks can the little guys pull? I'm guessin' I'd be surprised?

My Manectric likes playing with static electricity, the Vulpix has an affinity for opening doors and windows, and now when the Eevee's evolved she's always looking to try new tricks.

I can keep them in check, mostly, but it's under protest.

_{[There's a hint of a laugh in his voice at that, but he soon gets more curious about what Douglas is up to.]}

Sounds like a rambunctious bunch. Havin' Pokemon's almost like havin' kids runnin' around sometimes. Sorta exhausting, isn't it?

[he glances back down at the paper]

_{[He raises his eyebrows with an easy smile, but it turns into an 'ooh' sound when he gets the information.]}

[he smiles faintly, and for a moment he remembers being a father]

Well, this kid Heather knows has a bunch of Pokemon missing. Woke up in New Bark and they were gone. Pretty impressive list of Pokemon, too. He gave me some people to check with and I'll ask around at the adoption center.

If you're missin' the old job you could help out if you felt like it.

_{[Ooh, hm. He just might accept that offer, but first asks for details, as is his way.]}

The person in question is someone who'd disappeared and then returned, right?

Yep. Kid named Sora. Not sure if you know him. I'm guessin' his Pokemon are with friends who took 'em in when he disappeared, or at the center. Either way, I'm sure it should be an open and shut case.

_{[He ponder that for a second, then figures what the hell.]}

Well, should you want my help, I'd be happy to accept. You're right - you just can't help but miss the job a little.

Well, Detective, why don't you give him a call? I'm sure he could direct you to more people if he doesn't have all of them.

[he smiles. He's forgotten what it was like to not have to do detective work alone, and it's a warm and friendly sort of feeling]
