((OOC: oh my god, you guys, what am I even doing? Late intro is so late because of NaNoWriMo and I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING, besides. Enjoy :'D Sorry if I derp this up like the derp I am. [the feed shows Douglas Cartland blinking in the middle of a random field in the sunlight, shielding his eyes from the sun. He's got his 'gear in one hand and his Shuckle in the other and he's staring hard into the screen]

How the heck do I... how am I supposed to work this thing? Is it like a phone? One of those new video phone things or...

[pause]

Oh, it's recordin'. Okay. Well uh... not sure if anybody can hear this but I'd really like to know where I am. Some woman gave me lunch and shoved me outside when I woke up this morning, but that's not really important. What I really wanna know is where I woke up.

Hello? Anybody listenin'?

[he frowns]

There's no way this is Maine.

[he resists the urge to say "I have a feeling I'm not in Kansas anymore", because this isn't the time at all]

[Douglas just stares at the photographer for a moment, and then it really hits him]

Planet? So you're tellin' me... you're tellin' me this isn't even Earth?

[set phasers to "panic"]

[THOUSAND-YARD STARE IS GO. Henry spaces out right there in the video chat and doesn't speak for a long, awkward moment.]}

[Douglas is rather disturbed by that blank stare and he wonders for a moment if Henry is dead. But when he speaks, that worry dissipates and a whole new worry surfaces]

Wait a minute... dogs breathin' fire?

Is this... am I in hell?

[as silly as it sounds, it seems like a legitimate question to Douglas at the time]

_{[The photographer shakes his head.]}

Nah. You don't get to have friends in hell. It's weird here, but it could be a lot worse.

Nobody I know knows why we're here though. Sorry.

[he sighs, long and slow]

Well, that's okay. At least we're not in hell. Thanks for givin' me what info you had, at least.

[a small smile]

_{[Henry falls silent again. Heather's been encouraging him to speak up more. He's getting better at it! Sort of! He tries to think of anything else this guy needs to know.]}

It's weird. There's a video game about this place back on Earth.

_{[That...probably wasn't one of those things, Henry. Also, don't you have a name?]}

A... a video game? So we're someplace out of a video game?

That doesn't... that doesn't make a lot of sense. I mean, I believe ya, but how's this possible?

_{[THE THINGS HE'S SEEN, MAAAAN. He watched a dude KIDNAP HIMSELF. Talking flowers have nothing on that.]}

Somebody told me to just..._{not think about it.} It's hard.

Yeah, I'd imagine.

[he frowns]

So we're just... just stuck here until further notice? And there's nothin' we can do? [damn, Douglas hates feeling helpless]

This whole thing's pretty off if ya ask me.

_Yeah...but--but it could be worse. There are some nice people here.

[he smiles just a bit at that]

Yeah, people do seem pretty kind here, even if a lot of them seem... weird. And there's not much to miss back home, anyway. And Heather's here, so I don't mind too much. Do you know Heather?

_{[The photographer jerks out of the thoughtful little rown he'd started to develop. Hearing Heather's name startles him. He isn't sure if this guy is talking about their Heather or not.]

[And if he is...should he be talking to this man?]

[The last two people who popped up and knew Heather had been nothing but trouble.]}

Uhm...

[Douglas isn't quite sure what to make of Henry's expression. He's starting to wonder if he should be trusting this guy's expressions at all for all the good they're doing him]

Her name's Heather Mason? She's uh... she's blonde, kinda short? We were friends back home.

[and now he's just sort of rambling because he's never sure how to deal with awkward people]

_{[WAT DO? WAT DO? Everyone showing up asking for Heather has been bad news and this old dude was asking for her!]

If you're her friend, what's her favorite color?

Oh, she's probably told you about how things were with The Order, right? I guess it makes sense why you're gettin' all jumpy. I mean... usually people knowin' her name means trouble. I figured that out pretty quick.

[he rubs the back of his neck]

It sounds bad, but I dunno her favorite color. For a while it was blue, but then she was like "Douglas I hate blue now" and she switched over to red, and then it was blue again, and for ten minutes it was purple, and then orange and... I dunno if any of those even were her favorite colors or if she was tryin' to confuse me so much that I'd lose track of what color she liked and not go through with buyin' her a sweater like I wanted to. She said I didn't need to be fussin' over her. Even though I think she kinda likes being fussed over, deep down.

[and now he realizes he's gone into rant mode with quite possibly the last ranty person he has met here and he clams up]

Uh... sorry. Guess I kinda went off on a tangent there.

[Oh.]

[As Douglas continues, the tiny angryface Henry is making melts. That...sounds very much like an old man that Heather has given a hard time. He's SEEN how she worked.]}

It's okay. _{I don't think she even knows her favorite color.} I'm sorry. It's just...yeah. The Order. And stuff. Crazy people.

_{Not that I think you look crazy because you don't.}

But we have to be careful.

[he chuckles]

Yeah, sometimes I think she knows less about herself than other people do. I guess she's too busy with other stuff, though. She's never really been much to get self-absorbed very often.

[he nods, knowingly]

You been mixed up with those guys too, huh? Yeah, you can never be too careful when it comes to them. Learned that as soon as I figured out just what that Claudia woman was up to... right after she broke my legs. They're not a good bunch.

[his expression's all srs bsns now]

Hey, it's never so bad to assume somebody's crazy. We really do... gotta be careful.

_{[Henry listens quietly. He's glad to know (or hope he knows) that Douglas is on his side.]

[However he can't stop wondering if the man was in a wheelchair and if he was, how was he going to get from town to town? The roads were rough.]}

Yeah. I was supposed to be sacrificed.

[Douglas does a double take at that. Apparently The Order was big on sacrifices from what he'd heard, but it's still was a shock to hear about it. As jaded as life as a cop made him in his younger years, there are some things you never become desensitized to]

Sacrificed? Those sick bastards really know how to ruin lives.

[a pause]

I'm glad they didn't get ya, though. I like it when the good guys win.

Oh, yeah. They're okay now. That was a couple of months ago. It was a real pain tryin' to lug my sorry self around with casts, but it didn't last long.

Oh, good. I was wondering because you're going to have to do a lot of walking while you're here unless you've got a pokemon big enough to ride on.

[his eyes flick to his shuckle. No way would he be riding it]

So I'm guessin' this place isn't big on cars, then?

[great. Douglas isn't quite scowling about that, because that would be childish. But it's clear that he isn't quite happy, either]

Oh well, guess it could be worse. I'm just happy to have ended up in this crazy world, out of all the ones I could've gotten dropped into. It's gonna be nice to see Heather again.

You seem like a pretty standup guy. I'm glad Heather's got friends like you. From what she told me, most of the kids she hung out with in high school were pretty bad news.

[and he smiles wider, then. He feels like maybe the fact that he's introduced himself now means he's a bit more trusted than before]

Well, it's nice to meet ya, Henry. It's good to talk to somebody who knows about The Order and all this stuff, who's on the same side as me, for once.
