[Douglas is just sort of sitting around at the bar in the inn, and he's got the 'gear propped up on his bag, which is still filled mostly just with the basics and the things Heather sent him. He's pretty much moved permanently into a room in the inn at this point. Sheldon and Kal-El are fighting over some berries and come pretty near to knocking the 'gear over several times, so it's a while before Douglas can actually pay any attention to the feed he's sending out]

It's been a while since I've done this, hasn't it? Feels like it's been a while, anyway. This time I've actually got a point, though. I've been doin' some odd detective work for people around town lately, and it's got me thinkin'. I know there might not be much demand for this sort of thing, but if anybody needs to hire a private detective, you can contact me anytime. Figured it might do some good to advertise.

[then Kal-El knocks the 'gear over and Douglas sends him a scowl and holds it in his hands rather than risking it getting knocked over again]

I don't charge much. Really just got my room and food expenses to cover, so I'll do whatever you need for pretty cheap. Just send me some details if you have something you want me to work on.Got about twenty years of experience, and there's not a lot I can't handle, I like to think.

Well, this kid Heather knows has a bunch of Pokemon missing. Woke up in New Bark and they were gone. Pretty impressive list of Pokemon, too. He gave me some people to check with and I'll ask around at the adoption center.

If you're missin' the old job you could help out if you felt like it.

_{[Ooh, hm. He just might accept that offer, but first asks for details, as is his way.]}

The person in question is someone who'd disappeared and then returned, right?

[he nods]

Yep. Kid named Sora. Not sure if you know him. I'm guessin' his Pokemon are with friends who took 'em in when he disappeared, or at the center. Either way, I'm sure it should be an open and shut case.

Sounds pretty straightforward.

_{[He ponder that for a second, then figures what the hell.]}

Well, should you want my help, I'd be happy to accept. You're right - you just can't help but miss the job a little.

[he smiles at that]

Consider yourself part of the investigation. So far I've got this guy named Riku to ask about it, and that's about it. Here's a list of who's missin'.

[he slides the paper over to him]

_{[Which he picks up and looks over, with a small whine from Sheriff as he shifts.]}

Well, Detective, why don't you give him a call? I'm sure he could direct you to more people if he doesn't have all of them.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll call him tonight, after I've asked around at the center.

[he smiles. He's forgotten what it was like to not have to do detective work alone, and it's a warm and friendly sort of feeling]

The Breeding Center, you mean?

[he nods]

Sora seemed to think that'd be a good place to look for 'em. Would you wanna come down and check with me?

I hear they take in pokémon that are left, so it should be.

_{[He grins lightly in response, gives a cheerful thumbs up.]}

Just tell me when.

[he grins back, happy to have met someone like Cooper]

I'm free whenever. Just tell me a good time for you and we'll head down there.

No time like the present.

_{[He answers without missing a beat, because guess what? He doesn't have a lot of things to do either.]}

Good point. Let's head down there now.

[he's glad to have something to do. His life isn't exactly busy]

_{[The pup wakes up with a small whine, but he hops down to the floor, already totally ready to follow to wherever the action is.]

[Coop himself is in pretty good shape, too, and stands to wait for Douglas before heading out.]}

[Douglas drags himself off of his stool, chuckling at the fact that he knows it would have been a lot easier a few years ago, and heads for the door]

_{[Coop touches Douglas' shoulder briefly in a friendly gesture as well as a joking encouragement (in a manner of 'come on, old man') and follows easily.]
